Went to my first game last night of the beloved Cubbies in the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field… what a treat! It’s a majestic and picturesque stadium, with a fine view to the north Lakeshore from our upper-level right field seats. A beautiful sunset lit up the clouds and the brick buildings an orange-purple as the Cubs and Brewers dove into the thick of a tight game. The houses on the other side of the street from the bleachers can see over into the stadium, and many homeowners have installed seats up there. Cool!
The game was a close one, with a good Chicago rally in the 6th. With Milwaukee so close to Chicago, there was more than the usual friendly name-calling and cheering, especially due to a couple of loud-mouthed Brewers fans near us. In the end, the Cubs choked in the 9th, with their reliever giving up run after run, and two consecutive fielding errors, so they lost the game 8 to 5. Oh well. The game was fun and relaxing, but nowhere near as exciting or energetic as a Red Sox matchup at Fenway. It was good to get familiar with these names and positions, we’re going to see them play again in Milwaukee in just about 2 weeks! All in all, a great evening of baseball.
