The work week is done, the reservations are (mostly) made, and the pets are arranged for. Tomorrow, we’re off on a 2-week trip cycling through southern France, so it’s time to start packing. Week one is a good ride from Avignon to Cassis, and week two is a few days off the bikes, plus a more leisurely ride through the heart of Burgundy wine country- Cotes de Beaune, Cotes des Nuits, etc. Turns out there’s almost 800 km of bike paths (veloroutes) in Burgundy, some paved-over canal towpaths, which should be great riding.
It’s strange to think about riding in a whole new place, with a different bike. As much preparation as you can do, I wonder if it’ll all be different when I hop on a new bike. Every bike has its own quirks and personality, and you build up a level of confidence and understanding with a bike’s functionality over time.
Nevertheless, I’m very much looking forward to it. We’ll be well-armed with water, food, maps, and even GPS. The objective? Ride around, see some countryside, taste some great food and wine, and enjoy ourselves.
Will keep you posted on how it goes.
