Track of the Night: Block Party, Chuck Brown

The Nationals crumbled badly today, despite the city’s highest hopes and big excitement. Now, tomorrow’s game and the next are must-wins. An uphill climb, with the only recompense that if they make it to the NLCS, their opponent won’t be too well rested. So tonight, a hopeful, upbeat, D.C. song, by the godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown. The simple repetitive bass line and wa-wa rhythm guitar are infectious, and make you want to get up and move.

This song reminds me of the smiles and excitement of long, seeming never-ending nights of summer. Even though we’re well past that point here in October, let’s hope that the house keeps on rockin’ here in D.C. tomorrow night.
